One Year Later

[Back to Blog]

One Year Later

A year ago tomorrow, I officially launched this website with an introductory blog post, a short story, and a poem.
Over the course of the school year I posted at least once per week, often more frequently than that, sharing poems and stories as I wrote them.
Last April, I decided to take a break from the weekly posts to enjoy the summer and come up with some new content. Now after a restful summer and one year after my first posts, it’s time to get the ball rolling again!

Z Publishing House

Last spring, I was contacted by a representative of Z Publishing House. They had found my website and wanted to publish one of my short stories in an anthology of emerging writers. Of course, I was elated and eager to take them up on this opportunity.
California’s Emerging Writers: An Anthology of Fiction, in Z Publishing House’s words, consists of “nearly 100 up-and-coming authors [that] have the chance to share their own words. Covering a wide array of genres ranging from literary fiction, satire, mystery, comedy, science fiction, and more, these young talents will amaze you. Containing one story per writer, this anthology is a compelling introduction to the great wordsmiths of tomorrow.”
It was an honor to be selected as one of the writers whose work will be featured in this work. Now that the editing phase of the anthology is complete, print copies of the book will be coming out within a week or two! Click the link above or click here to order your copy.

What Next?

I have several goals for the coming school year:
  • I plan on completing the first draft of my sixth novel (doing so before the new year was one of my 2018 goals).
  • I will post at least one story, poem, or blog post per week on Fridays.
  • With the short stories that I post, I plan on experimenting with different styles of stories, including realistic fiction and flash fiction. You’ll see realistic fiction stories in the coming month.
  • Sometime in the future, I intend to publish a short story serial: a series of short stories, each self contained, but each part of an ongoing narrative, akin to a TV show. This may start as soon as next spring, but likely I won’t start this until fall of 2019.
Can’t wait to get back into the swing of things! My next short story, “Separados,” will be up a week from today. Thanks for joining me on my journey!
